Conference Theme: Decoding Science
The 2025 SASTA Annual Conference theme, “Decoding Science,” builds on the National Science Week focus by opening the door to diverse explorations in quantum science, genetics, environmental studies, and beyond. “Decoding Science” invites educators to uncover the tools and techniques that make scientific principles accessible, understandable, and engaging for students at all levels.
We are seeking workshops that inspire teachers to bring science’s hidden languages into the classroom, highlighting innovative methods, hands-on tools, and practical applications that connect complex topics with students’ everyday experiences.
Possible presentations could include:
Decoding Scientific Concepts for the Classroom
Innovative Strategies for Engaging Diverse Learners
Connecting Students to the Real World of Science: Ideas for bringing scientists and real-world data into the classroom, fostering curiosity, and showing students the everyday relevance of scientific exploration.
Inclusive and Ethical Science Education: Workshops that emphasize inclusive teaching strategies, the integration of Indigenous knowledge, or discussions on the ethics of genetics, climate change, and AI in science.
Making Science Tangible and Memorable: Exploring storytelling, tactile materials, and project-based learning to make abstract scientific ideas understandable and engaging, including strategies for project-based and student-centred learning.
